Rock Star Camp
The rock star camp is geared towards those students who
have become competent on their instruments and are ready
to form a band, but lack the experience necessary to integrate
with other young musicians. We will provide all the equipment,
including drums and a sound system. Enrollment is limited
to drums, bass guitar, guitars, keyboards, and vocals.
NEW THIS YEAR: for rock STAR camp, we will record two songs in a recording studio, and shoot an actual rock video, to be screened on the last day of camp.
Rock Band Camp is also offered as a regular class throughout
the school year.
GIRLZ Rock Band Camp
The Girlz rock STAR camp is geared towards girls who have become
competent on their instruments and are ready to form a band,
but lack the experience necessary to integrate with other
young musicians. We will provide all the equipment, including
drums and a sound system.
The Girlz rock STAR camp is taught by the talented Sarah
Good. Sarah's experience as a recording artist and touring
musician make her a great choice to run this camp!
NEW THIS YEAR: for Girlz rock STAR camp, we will record two songs in a recording studio, and shoot an actual rock video, to be screened on the last day of camp.
The Musical Theatre camp is for kids and teens who like
to act, sing or dance - or all of the above! Even fellas
who may be too cool to dance will feel at home here.
Participants will be given the opportunity to learn improvisation,
create their own scripts and develop their own characters.
The camp also focuses on stage management and production.
Movie Making Camp
The Movie Making camp is for kids aged 8 to 13. So far, all of our past movies have been of a quality to earn a spot in the Hamilton Film Festival!
Students will learn about:
- writing a script
- developing plotlines
- developing storylines
- character development
- scene layout
- shot setup (basic cinematography)
3. Post Production
- sound design
- ADR (automated dialogue replacement)
- movie poster
- press release
- YouTube link
The movie we produce will be 20 to 30 minutes in length. It will be filmed in high-definition, and parents will be invited to a private screening on the last day of camp. Each student will then receive a DVD or Blu-ray disc to take home.
Recording Studio Camp
Students in the Recording Studio Camp will learn basic and
intermediate digital recording studio techniques:
- full band recording
- single-instrument overdubbing
- microphone technique and placement
- production and arrangement
The camp is taught by Avalon Music Academy owner Steve Parton.
Steve is a graduate of the nationally-renowned recording
school "Music Industry Arts", at Fanshawe College
in London. His impressive recording and live sound resume includes sessions/shows with Phil Collins, Celine Dion, Nickelback, Matthew Good
Band, Blue Rodeo - and goes on and on. The full text is
found on his website: www.partonmusic.com/producer.htm
Music Jam Camp
This camp is for kids who are trying to decide which musical instrument to choose - or for those who want to taste it all!
Kids will learn:
- how to use an electric guitar whammy bar
- why the trumpet is the most feared instrument in the orchestra
- how to play a funky beat on a drum set
- how Beethoven was able to compose, though he was deaf
- what the heck jazz music is all about
- how to be a ukulele master - even if you don't live in Hawaii
All ages are welcome.
Guitar Building Workshop
A few years ago, we started the first Build-Your-Own Electric
Guitar Workshops. Our succes can be guaged by the students'
photos below (click on a photo to view full-size).
(Scroll down below the photos to continue reading the text)
Although the body and neck of the guitar are already cut
out of wood (so no power tools are involved), students will
learn to paint, finish, and wire up (no electrical soldering
will be required) and assemble the guitar. In some cases,
we will re-model the shape of the head-stock (or the guitar!)
so each instrument is unique (the teacher alone will cut
the wood to the student's design). Each guitar will be named,
and a custom logo will be created.
There are five styles of guitars from which to choose. Please
note that the prices are IN ADDITION to the standard camp
fee. You may contact the Dundas
or Brantford locations for more
